Family

Can my spouse and children come with me, and where will the children go to school?

Your spouse and children may be able to join you under Dependent status (家族滞在), depending on your own status and your ability to support them. Student and several work statuses qualify; Specified Skilled Worker (i) does not. Family members need their own applications.

For children, contact your municipal board of education about public elementary or junior high school enrolment. Foreign children can attend these schools without tuition fees, though other school expenses may apply. International schools charge fees. MEXT publishes multilingual school-enrolment guidance; a Turkish version is not currently listed.

What may vary

Depends on the sponsor's status of residence (not every status can sponsor dependants), on showing you can support the family, and on each family member's nationality for the visa itself; immigration decides case by case, so confirm with the regional immigration bureau before booking anything. If your spouse is a Japanese national or permanent resident, a different status applies.
